In reply to Avraham Reiss. I never claimed that the performance was actually shown. "A performance" can mean something that has happened on or off-screen in this context, and therefore my reference to the performance was not "untrue and misinforming" as you say.

In reply to Brian Eggert. My point was that the perforrmance was mentioned, the mention is very relevant, but the performance itself does not appear in the movie.

In reply to Avraham Reiss. A performance of that song does play heavily into the plot. The performance I am referring to is the one that the real Marianne played, the one Max confronts Cotillard's character about in that scene. The fact that Cotillard's character cannot play it is essential, and a major development in the plot. As a critic, I did not want to spoil that for the reader.

I finished viewing Allied less that an hour ago, and point out that the whole point of mentioning “La Marseillaise” is that there was NO performance of “La Marseillaise” in the movie, and that was a decisive factor in the movies end.
