Hi Erica. You are correct, we all have biases, and critics review from a subjective perspective. My remarks about this film and the younger Smith represent my critical biases against nepotism, especially when it results in an actor’s undeserved placement in a film role. I don’t think that writing about a child actor as being unsuited for a performance is necessarily unfair; he is part of the film, and my critique of the film, and the nepotism behind the film, involves discussing the elements of the film that I dislike. In this case, it was obvious to me that Jaden Smith was miscast and, likely, he secured the role largely because of his father’s celebrity.

Why talk about a child like that? A critique of the movies or character portrayals is one thing, but it seems like you have negative personal emotions toward this man and his child. They are trying to portray a unique coming of age story and the vision of the future showed such a diverse population of people. It was beautiful! But I know we all have our lenses through which we view things, our own preferences, prejudices and biases.
